Travel & Stay
Flying
International travel
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the closest international airport at about 18mi from DTLA. Traffic here can be very unpredictable, so leave plenty of time coming and going from the airport.
Domestic travel
Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is a small local airport just 20min from the heart of LA. We highly recommend flying here if possible, as it is much more convenient than LAX.
Driving
LA is a very car-centric (and traffic heavy!) city, with very few public transport options. We joke that distance here is measured in time, not miles. That said, you should plan ahead to decide your best option for getting around town.
Uber / Lyft
Rideshare services are very popular and plentiful in LA. If you choose to take a rideshare from LAX airport, follow signs for LAX-it to your pickup location. Note you may want to take a free airport shuttle to avoid a long walk.
Rental Cars
If you’re staying a while in LA, car rentals are a relatively affordable and convenient option to explore the city. Many rental companies operate out of both LAX and BUR.
Turo
Another car rental option is the newish Turo app. It allows you to borrow cars from LA locals at a fair price and avoid the hassle of a third party rental. These are often available for pick-up at the airport and around the city.
Sleeping
All of our wedding events are located in central LA, making most neighborhoods a convenient home base for guests. We recommend staying closer to the eastside of LA rather than the western beach towns. Here are a few of our favorite areas that you may want to consider.
Silver Lake / Los Feliz - This area is known for its lively bar and restaurant scene, walkability, proximity to Griffith Park, and being Katie & Mel’s hometown! It’s also just a 15min drive to the wedding venue.
Echo Park - Just east of Silver Lake, this youthful neighborhood boasts tons of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars, all scattered along the walkable Sunset Blvd. It’s a quick 10min drive to the wedding venue, and 5min to Katie & Mel’s house.
DTLA - Home of high rises, Little Tokyo, and nearby Arts District, this neighborhood offers a lot of hip hotels with rooftop terraces, as well as tons of shopping, restaurants, and bars. While DTLA is nice, there are some seedy areas, so feel free to consult Katie or Mel before booking!
AIRBNB
Airbnb is a great option to experience the local lifestyle of LA. It can also be much more cost effective than a hotel, especially with a group of people. We’re happy to help find the right house for you—just ask!
Hotels
We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites to help you get started. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about these or other hotels.
